Calder High School in Mytholmroyd is set to expand with a proposed new modular block designed specifically to support pupils facing behavioural challenges.

Calderdale Council has submitted a planning application for a five-bay modular building at the school’s Brier Hey Lane site. The new block would house two classrooms, along with toilets, storage space and a lobby area. It’s designed to accommodate up to 24 pupils aged 11 to 16, supported by up to eight staff members.

The development aims to enhance the school’s ability to meet the growing needs of its student population. According to supporting documents, the block will help deliver better education opportunities while promoting safe, fulfilling and active lifestyles.

The structure will be located to the north of the current school buildings and include new security fencing and disabled parking bays. Planners argue that the development is appropriately scaled and will not cause disruption to neighbours.

The full application can be viewed on Calderdale Council’s Planning Portal under reference number 25/00405/FUL.
